Te Kakano Teachers CRT Day
On Wednesday 31st May the Te Kakano teachers visited the Forest School during part of their CRT Day.What an amazing environment children had to explore.We observed collaboration everywhere. ALL children were busy and engaged in exploratory play.Boundaries were clearly defined and respected.Running and still water was accessible for all children if desired.Provocations were set out among the trees and all the children we saw were having fun playing and exploring.It was a wonderful stimulating environment we would love to visit again !!

Learning stories from Te Kakano
Take a look at the learning stories the Te Kakano teachers put together in their meeting this week. Learning stories show just some of the areas of the curriculum the children learn about in their play. Learning stories are a way to celebrate children's learning, to learn about the importance of play as adults and a place to share the children's voice.
Enjoy seeing and reading below about the children learning through play!

Loose Parts
LOOSE PARTS – small or large parts
We are on the hunt for any “loose parts” you may have around the house.
Loose parts are considered exactly that...anything that you think maybe
“junk” or something that you just don’t see a use for.....then we may want
it!
Often these items are the most desirable for children to be creative and
innovative in their play and thinking.
Some ideas could be:
-
Boxes (small/big)
-
Pvc pipes
-
Cardboard cylinders
-
Off cuts of wood or wooden planks
-
Pellets of wood
-
Old tyres
* Nails
* Old sheets
* String/wool
* Material
* Dress up clothes
* Any odd bits and bobs

Te Kakano Lunch Eating
Our new lunch eating area is fantastic. The junior children are seated in the shade with their friends. We have a Te Kakano staff member on duty with them, which is reassuring for the new children as they are familiar faces. It is also giving them more time to eat their morning tea and lunch. We have had positive comments from parents about the children eating more of their food.
Congratulations to parents for providing some delicious and nourishing lunches. Your children are lucky to have such healthy rolls, sandwiches, wraps, savories, fruit and vegetables.
